KTM 950 Adventure – Best Used Bikes

Years sold: 2004 to 2006

MSRP new: $11,998 (’04) to $13,898 (’06)

Blue Book retail value: $5,610 (’04) to $6,600 (’06)

Basic specs: The 950 Adventure is powered by a liquid-cooled 942cc V-twin fed by a pair of 43mm Mikuni carburetors and rated at 100 hp. A steel frame, together with long-travel WP suspension and wire-spoke wheels (21-inch front, 18-inch rear), makes this KTM well suited for off-highway riding.

Why it’s desirable: Based on the bike that won the Dakar Rally in 2002, the 950 Adventure was designed to tackle all but the roughest off-road trails, while also being KTM’s first serious entry into the street market. We named the 950 Adventure the Best Dual-Purpose Bike in 2003, saying: “Dual-purpose bikes have long been lauded for their versatility, but never has a motorcycle been as versatile as the new KTM 950. Part rally racer, part dual-sport, part adventure-tourer, it’s the best multitasker ever to wear semi-knobbies…”
